Description

How did the Adhan, Islam's call to prayer, begin? What Medina tried first, where its words came from, what made them law, and why Bilal (ra)?
No music: only the real Adhan, ambience and paper sounds.

When the first Muslims reached Medina, no one called them to prayer. This paper-collage documentary follows how the adhan (azan, athan) began: the flag, horn, wooden clapper and fire the reports name first; the words shown to Abdullah ibn Zayd (ra) in a dream, which Umar (ra) said he had seen too; the approval and command of the Prophet ﷺ that made it law; and why the voice of Bilal ibn Rabah (ra), once enslaved in Mecca and freed by Abu Bakr (ra), was chosen to carry it. Then the call line by line, Abu Mahdhura (ra), the caller of Mecca, and the road to Sham, Basra and Fustat.
